Back in DC, I remember being mesmerized by Britta Jaschinski's incredible collection of photography, Zoo. The photographs spoke to me about the complexity of zoos, how they are both prisons for the creatures and yet necessary for studying the animals in order to ensure they remain alive in the wild.

I don't know if I'll ever have a good opinion about zoos, but I do know that these creatures are amazing and beautiful, and I hate to think of the day when seeing them in person will no longer be an option.
